Job Overview:  The cost accountant position is responsible for serving as a key team member in the finance department through its interactions with our operational team members. This role also serves as a resource for the Vice President of Manufacturing, plant managers and other management within the organization, advising them of inventory variances, costing of manufactured products and margin improvement recommendations.  All office personnel may be asked to substitute for other office staff during absences.

Essential Functions

1. Analyzing manufacturing operations, equipment availability and utilization
2. Performing month-end cost accounting close
3. Maintaining cost accounting system and cost ledger
4. Performing life cycle cost-benefit analysis
5. Analyzing inventory valuations

Supervisory Responsibility

The cost accountant has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does provide oversight of the corporate accounting function.  Employee will be expected to work closely with plant managers, salesforce and executives of the company. 

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting but will involve visiting plant operations on a frequent basis. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files as necessary.  Assist in physical inventory counts of our manufacturing facilities (MSHA and/or OSHA sites).

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full time status.  Occasional weekend travel is needed for international visits. 

Travel

Travel expected at a minimum of 20% of the year supporting our plants in North America and Europe.  Valid passport is required.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

5 years of cost accounting experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

CPA designation.
