Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), also known as molybdenite, is a layered solid lubricant with a crystal structure similar to graphite. This structure allows the material to shear easily under load, providing excellent friction reduction and wear protection.
MoS₂ performs especially well in inert atmospheres, high-vacuum environments, and moisture-free systems where conventional lubricants may fail.
